Gorgeous local couple Ally and Harry got married at Racine in September 2019. We absolutely loved working with Ally and Harry to create their dream day. Ally was a dream bride, relaxed and open to all suggestions all while knowing exactly what she wanted! We especially admired that they used mainly local suppliers which resulted in a gorgeous, relaxed, fun and perfect day.
How long have you and Harry been together? When and where did you get engaged?
Almost 4 years!! Harry proposed at his family farm after a long and tiring day of farm work. It was getting late and I wanted to head back to town to make quiches for a family function the next day. Harry kept dragging out the jobs and I became annoyed. He decided that some critical jobs had to be done - move the sheep, take the dogs for a run and move the tractor. On sunset Harry asked me to go and help him spray weeds on top of the hill and by now I was fuming. So off we went to the top of the hill. Before I knew it he was down on one knee. I was in complete and utter shock and when he asked me to marry him, I said “no, no, no!” With Harry then replying.. so your answer is no? I came too and quickly followed up with a no, I mean yes!
We loved your relaxed, party wedding vine, what were the most important aspects did you and Harry want for your day?
Harry and I decided to marry at Racine in Orange during spring. The ceremony was under their beautiful old oak tree in front of 100 of our closet family and friends. We selected Racine for its stunning views and delicious food. We wanted to have a relaxed, cocktail style wedding so that our guests were up mingling or on the dance floor. As it was a cocktail theme we decided to keep the speeches to a minimum and all other formalities so that we could spend more time enjoying being with our family and friends.
We loved working with you, you were so calm and relaxed, any advice for future brides in remaining calm during the lead up?
Throughout the whole process I was pretty relaxed. We had a short engagement and 6 months to plan our wedding. I didn’t see the point in getting stressed over minor details. Harry and I decided to sit down and make a list. We took off all the things that we didn’t see as important to our wedding. It can be very overwhelming if you spend a lot of time looking at Instagram and Pintrest (don’t get me wrong they are both very helpful) but I had limited planning time. My advice is to keep it simple. Everything falls into place on the day. Relax and enjoy the day- it’s over before you know it.
We absolutely loved your bouquet and flowers at the wedding, who did them?
A great friend of mine, Amelia Hain did the styling of the flowers for the reception. She’s very clever and created a really beautiful classic theme of white and green flowers.
Botanica Flora did my beautiful bouquets and button holes. I wanted a classic bouquet of white long stemmed roses.
Did you and Harry take some time and go on a honeymoon? Where did you go?
We enjoyed 10 relaxing days in Canggu, Bali for our honeymoon, which was exactly what we needed after a busy few months.
Any other suppliers worth mentioning? (Example venue, celebrant, hair, make up, photographer, music etc)
We hired furniture from The White Place to compliment our cocktail theme. Soph and Alex were so amazing to work with and made the whole experience so fun and relaxed. Pip from The Flour Pantry made our cake, which was so delicious and Jess from Oh Dear Design did our wedding day design and printing. The whole White Place team were great and I really appreciated their time and styling advice.
Willa and the whole Racine team were wonderful. We chose Racine for it’s picturesque location and delicious food. They were awesome and so accommodating.
Nat Shillington (Shillobrations), our celebrant was exceptional. She is highly organised and very helpful from beginning to end. She made me think of things that I hadn’t thought of. I was very grateful for her wonderful advice and help. Our ceremony was tailored to suit our laid back personalities and our guests were delighted to hear stories and learn more about our relationship. This created a light-hearted mood and the feedback after from guests was overwhelming.
Kirsten Cunningham was our photographer. Kirsten is awesome to work with. She made the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. Harry and I were initially quite awkward about having our wedding photos but Kirsten made us laugh the whole time. She’s hilarious and great fun! We absolutely loved our wedding photos. The day is over before you know it so our beautiful photos are our memories.
